The world was a better place with Spike in it. I am a fellow Westford Academy 1980 graduate and feel fortunate to have had him for a classmate. My thoughts are with his family at this sad time.

"Uncle Mike" a great addition to our family; may the love you have shown us all remain. If we believe in anything - we would like to believe that God had a purpose for calling you home; he gave you the strength to endure and my sister the strength to survive. We promise to be there for Ally and the kids as much as possible and know that you are looking upon them with the pride and love that you have always shown. We are proud to have had you in our lives; a memory that will forever be close to our hearts.

I haven't seen Spike since high school, but I have thought of him often. I'm not sure why this has hit me so hard, except may be because he made me laugh so hard. He was someone that touched people in a way that would stay with us always, even with no contact for 27 years... just the thought of him makes me laugh-- I think he would love that. My deapest sympathy to his family --I know you must be very special.

Thank you for everything, Mike. Mary McHale has a great story about you paying for her and her friends' meal following a lector training session.
You and your terrific family are the subjects of many prayers!

To the Connell Family,
My deepest condolences during this difficult time. Mike and I go back to the fall of 1980 at Swain School of Design where a friendship was established and continued to this day. Although distance and the charters of life kept us apart, I will always call him my friend.
Sincerely,
Cindi Connell

In my family, when something goes mildly wrong--like, when the restaurant you drive an hour to is closed--we say, "How could you have known . . ??", imitating a telephone commercial from the mid-90s ("next time, call ahead"). I found out years later that Spike wrote those commercials. When I met him even more years later, I mentioned our family tradition. He looked at me blankly, and then his face lit up, and he said, "that's mine!"
You never know how your life will touch other's. This small piece of Spike lives on in my family.

"Spikael"...I can still see you standing on Boston Rd posing as a body builder for on coming traffic. Class of 80' wouldn't have been the same without you. Huge smile, contagious laugh, you will be missed!

I knew Mike well. We always ended up in the same classes from the Frost school during elemetry years all the way through high school at WA. He always loved the Army and Art. No doubt that "Army" was in the title name of his company. He was by far the best artist and always the funniest in our class. I was always assured to get a joke from Mike. It was great to see him and his wife at the last WA 1980 class reunion. I know that Mike will be missed by his co-workers and his family. He was a great guy. He is now in a peaceful place.

I
am sadden to hear of "Spikes" passing. I grew up in Westford and new
Mike from high school and then much better in college at the Swain
School of Design. We had alot of fun together, he was a very funny guy
and the world is a little duller without him. My deepest sympathies to
his wife and children, his parents, his extended family, especialy the
Westford Connells of whom I have such fond memories.
Sincerely, Donald Beal
