Michael Gay Obituary

Co-Owner of Plaza Limousine

Lowell

Michael "Mike" F. Gay, age 69, died peacefully at his home surrounded by his family after a long period of declining health, on Saturday, December 23, 2023. He was born in Lowell on October 27, 1954, raised in Billerica, attended Billerica Public Schools, and relocated to Lowell over twenty years ago.

Mike cofounded Plaza Limousine back in the early '80s and grew a very successful business. He served as a board member of New England Livery Association for many years, during which he became a well-known and respected member in his industry. He grew and cultivated many relationships through the years with colleagues in the industry as well as many prominent New England Firms, Business Owners, CEOs and private clients from Boston to New York, California and Washington.

Mike loved to laugh and was happiest when vacationing with family and friends at Rangeley Lake in Maine. His favorite restaurant was Livingstone's where he would enjoy conversations with family and friends. His infectious laugh was contagious. Mike was known for his kindness and sense of humor, always brightening the lives of those around him. He loved his family, cars and his dog and best friend, Milo. His presence will surely be missed by so many.

Mike is survived by his two brothers, Robert Gay and his wife Susan of NH, Richard J. Gay and his wife Sandra of Dracut, his sister, Mary D. Noftle of Lowell, his nieces and nephews, Kristin Gay, Robert Gay, Scott Noftle, Kimberly Bettencourt and Richard Gay. He also leaves his longtime friend and business partner of Plaza Limousine, Scott Regan, his wife, Alexandria, and their sons, Maxwell and Harrison, and his lifelong friend and attorney, Andrew J. Zaroulis. Mike was a member of Holy Family Parish in Lowell.

He was predeceased by his mother, Dorothy A. Gay, his brother Dennis Gay, and his dog, Milo.

To the family of Michael: As the now retired and former owner of Tewksbury Funeral Home, my wife Debbie and I extend our most sincere sympathy to your family, his business partner Scott, and Milo too. Michael, Scott and I go back many years, when they regularly called on me to supplement their fleet with our six-door limo. It was a favorite ride for several members of TV´s Channel 5 management team. Scot was always a calming soul, whose list of dignitaries was truly a Who´s Who List of the titans of commerce, entertainment´s celebrities, stars, and everyday Joes like myself. Mike´s rides to Logan, to send me off on a new adventure, or his smiling face to pick me up at all crazy hours upon arriving from vacations, will remain in my memory forever. He was charismatic, comical, smart, but remained modest and humble throughout the years I knew him. I was proud to call him my friend. Rest in Peace, the world has lost a Prince.

Michael this was the first holiday season in 25 years that we haven't spoken and I miss you already. I hope you will save me a spot so we can talk when I see you in the future. We had good times as a group and chatting about the livery industry on the phone tougher as well. The company is in good hands with Scott. You are the best and the salt of the earth my friend. Mike was one of the best. My siblings and I were lucky to be able to call him Uncle Mike. His kindness, warmth and sense of humor always made for great visits. Mike was was my father´s best friend. They enjoyed many years of friendship and considered him part of the family. I know they are laughing again and watching over is.
May his memory be a blessing. Although his life has been cut short, the special way he made you feel will live on. The dash between 1954 - 2023 proved to be his important story. A life well shared with all who were lucky to know him.
Uncle Mike you will be missed!!

Rest in eternal peace my dear Michael. You gave more than you received. I enjoyed working with you on many projects in Lowell like the Fed Cup. Could always count on you to be flawless in your execution. When you brought the Red Sox trophy to lowell during the city of lights parade, another example of helping people enjoy life. You will always have a special
Place in my heart.

Way back in 1983, Mike picked me up At my home, and drove me to channel 5 to attend a telethon. This began a 40 year, friendship and business relationship which enriched my life.
I watched it all as his business group to include such client as WCVB
,the Hearst corporation, Emerson College, Rasky Barelein PRJ, rhe Boston RED SOX ,NESN, Metromedia And his passengers included Tom Wertin, katie Couric, Phil Donahue, Henry Winkler and President Joe Biden. The president became a good friend to Mike and he was invited to inaugurations.
I always rode in the front seat, because we were such good friends. I wanted to be closer to him.
Mike will be missed by all who knew him... May God rest his soul

News of Mike's passing has stopped time for me. I owe him a great debt of gratitude for his role as a mentor and outrageously clever friend. His capacity to lighten the atmosphere in any setting with his homespun and natural humor was recognized immediately by all. He was comfortable in the company of the most common in society as well as those who held high position and effortlessly blended them socially. Mike, my great thanks for your having driven me on the best rides of my life. Rest in peace dear friend.
