Nancy McKay Gunther, 87, was peacefully called home by the Lord on the morning of Monday, May 24, at her home surrounded by her loving family.
Nancy was born in Cambridge, MA, on December 4, 1933, to the late Dorothy (Yorke) and Albert Baxter. She was raised in Alston and graduated from Brighton High School in 1951. She later moved to Billerica where she married Frederick McKay, who predeceased her, and dedicated herself to raising her four children and working full time to support her family. After her retirement, Nancy spent her winters in Florida and her summers at Cobbetts Pond in Windham with her late husband George and her family.
Nancy was known for having a kind soul and heart of gold to anyone who was fortunate enough to meet her. She enjoyed being active in her church, volunteering, gardening, doing crafts and going to yard sales. She enjoyed going to the beach, especially Plum Island, collecting shells and sea glass. Nancy and her late husband George traveled across the country on their motorcycle and sailed the Caribbean together. Nancy's pride and joy was her family, who describe her as the glue that kept the family together.
Nancy was most passionate about spending time with her family, including her grandchildren and great grandchildren who she adored. Nancy was a wonderful wife, mother, daughter, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, sister, and friend. She was loved by everyone who knew her and will be missed by so many.
Nancy is survived by four children, Fred McKay of Concord, NH, Cindi Lefebvre and her husband Paul of Pepperell, John McKay of Billerica, and David McKay of Lowell. She was the beloved nana to her grandchildren, Rick McKay III and his wife Carla, Samantha McKay, Lisa Jamieson, Rachel Blaisdell and her husband Randy, Bonnie Reagan and her husband Steve, Brian McKay, Amanda McKay and her husband Justin, Ashley McKay, Michael McKay, David McKay Jr., Matthew Gunther, and Taylor Gunther, as well as her great grandchildren, Logan, Brooke, Aubree, Blake, Adalyn, Paige, Emma, Sophia, and JJ, and her stepchildren George Gunther, Kathy Gunther, and Les Gunther and his wife Sandy.
Nancy was a wonderful wife, mother, daughter, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She was loved by everyone who knew her and will be greatly missed. In addition to her parents, she was pre-deceased by her husband George Gunther, her grandson Christopher McKay, her stepson Mason Gunther and her sister Cynthia Baxter.
