HOLLIS, NH -- Sarah E. Whittemore, 51, of Hollis, NH, died peacefully at her home on April 11, 2011 surrounded by her family. She fought a brief and courageous battle with cancer.

Sarah was born on January 11, 1960 in Framingham, Mass., a daughter of Harold B. Whittemore Jr. of Leesburg, FL and the late Virginia E. (Giles) Whittemore. Sarah's second mother, Susan E. She had been active in the International Order of Rainbow Girls, and was a Past Worthy Advisor of Ayer Assembly #104.

She will forever be fondly remembered by everyone who knew her as a devoted daughter, sister and loving and caring wife, who enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Sarah's vibrant smile and genuine love for life will always be remembered by those who were lucky enough to have come into contact with her.

Sarah was predeceased by her grandparents, Harold B. Whittemore Sr. and Marion Whittemore of Wellesley, MA; Dr. Newell and Emma Giles of Darien, CT as well as John D. "Dick" and Catherine D. McNerny of Ayer, MA.

My sister, who was particularly close to Sarah, and I grew up with Sarah and her brothers and sister. Sarah was a wonderful, kind and caring person as a child and an even better person as an adult. All of us who met her, knew her or had the great fortune to have grown up with her are far better off because of her than we would have been. Thank you Sarah for being who you were, you blessed all of us just by being you.

I was very surprised when a good friend of mine told me what was going on with Sarah. My heart and prayers go out to her family, though I have not been in touch for a very long time, I hope that she is in a better place. God Speed and keep you in his arms.

Sarah and our daughter, Marianne Collins grew up together and Sarah was in our home almost as much as she was in her home. She was like a second daughter to us. Our hearts are hurting, for her Dad, Bart, her sister, Jan, brothers Tiger and Blair and John as well as for all her friends and family. Heaven is a better place now as that is Sarah;s new address, but that doesn't negate the loss that we all feel.

My sincerest, deepest sympathy to the entire Whittemore family and to Sarah's husband Joe. I grew up with her brothers Blair and Tiger and Sarah was most certainly one of the sweetest girls in our neighborhood. This is truly a sad time for all who loved her. We will miss you Sarah.

Dear Joe and family,
Sarah and I were very close buddies for years growing up at Sandy Pond. I spent many, many hours at Sarah's house with her wonderful family. They were also my family. It is hard to imagine that her beautiful smile will now be looking down on Joe and The Whittemore Family from heaven.
In God's Love,

My dear family, I was so sorry to hear of Sarah's death. What a beautiful and courageous woman! Our paths didn't cross often enough in life, but the few times we did meet at family gatherings were memorable and I was struck by Sarah's delightful personality, sense of humor and warmth. My thoughts and prayers are with Joe and Sarah's family and friends. May the memories they cherish bring comfort and peace as they navigate through the difficult days ahead.

I just received a phone call about Sarah, and it put me in shock. I never knew she was fighting a battle with cancer. I lived next door to her in Lunenburg, and had numerous memories and laughter together. My sympathy to her husband and family, she will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

I worked with Sarah at Raytheon and am very saddened to hear of her passing. We had alot of laughs and when my parents moved to Nashua, she showed me how to get there by the back roads because I can't drive on the highway. I've been so greatful because I travel that route that she taught me every weekend. I'm very sorry to think that she suffered.
