Sophie M. Koczerga

Sophie M. Koczerga lived in Wilmington for five decades; 87 RALEIGH, N.C. Sophie M. (Adamowski) Koczerga, 87, of Raleigh, N.C., formerly of Wilmington, died on Thursday, July 12, 2007, at the Falls River Village Assisted Living Facility in Raleigh. She was the beloved wife of the late Edward Koczerga. She was born in New Bedford, Mass., on Wed., Jan. 21, 1920, the daughter of the late Jan and Katarzyna (Koczera) Adamowski. She graduated from Bryant College. She was a former 52-year resident of Wilmington, and had been residing in Raleigh for the past eight years. Before retiring, Mrs. Koczerga was employed with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. She loved gardening and her favorite flower was the rose. Mrs. Koczerga is survived by her children and their spouses, Kathryn E. Parker of Wake Forest, Patricia and Gregory LaBonte of Phoenix, Edward and Sharon Koczerga of Wells, Maine, and John and Kathleen Koczerga of Tewksbury; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Funeral mass at St. Thomas Church 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow in the family lot Wildwood Cemetery, in Wilmington.
