Stanley Shilensky Obituary

Stanley J. Shilensky of Lowell, formerly of Tewksbury; 74 LOWELL Stanley J. "Stan" Shilensky, age 74, a resident of the Belvidere area of Lowell, formerly of Tewksbury, died Sunday, March 23, 2008 at Saints Medical Center. He was the husband of the late Bessie "Pappas" (Pappaconstantinou) Shilensky, who died June 18, 1996. Born in Hartford, Connecticut on August 25, 1933, he was the son of the late Steve and Anna (Laukanus) Shilensky. Stan was raised in Hartford and attended Hartford schools. He later attended and graduated in 1957 from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) School of Architecture in Cambridge. During his years at MIT, he was a member of the men's varsity basketball team. In 1958, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served as unit commander of the 1331st Combat Engineering Unit and was a member of the 232nd Engineering Company, 2nd Infantry Brigade. Prior to his honorable discharge on March 15, 1968, he was awarded the rank of 2nd Lieutenant. Mr. Shilensky was employed for over 30 years as an architect and project manager for Ganteaume & McMullen, Inc. of Boston until his retirement in 1998. He was a communicant of St. William's Parish of Tewksbury. According to his daughters, "he was an avid sports fan who enjoyed fishing, playing basketball and baseball." In addition, he liked taking family trips to Hampton Beach, playing a game of cribbage and providing for his family. He is survived by two daughters, Cynthia E. Shilensky of Tewksbury and Stephanie Shilensky and her companion John Young of Lowell; two grandsons, Ethan J. Piper of Townsend and Michael J. Evans, Jr. of Gardner; also many nieces, nephews and close friends. Mr. Shilensky was the father of the late Deborah A. (Shilensky) Carney and Catherine L. (Shilensky)(Piper) Hingey. SHILENSKY Stanley J. Calling hours Thursday, March 27th, 6-8 p.m., at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee St., Tewksbury. Relatives and friends are invited to his Funeral Mass to be celebrated Friday, March 28th, at 11:30 a.m., at St. William's Church, 1351 Main St., Rte. 38, Tewksbury. At the request of the family there will not be a procession from the funeral home, kindly join the family at St. William's Church. Interment will follow at St. Mary Cemetery, Tewksbury.
