Stephen Sotakos Obituary

Stephen J. Sotakos of Lowell, was Boston bank executive, active in Orthodox community, WWII vet; 87 LOWELL Stephen J. Sotakos, 87, of Lowell, a member of a well-known and respected family, died Friday morning, at D'Youville Senior Care Center in Lowell. He was the husband of the late Christine (Vinios) Sotakos, who died in March 1977. Born in Lowell Mary 22, 1921, son of the late John G. and the late Athanasia (Tsouprakakis) Tsotakos, he attended Lowell Schools and was a graduate of Lowell High School. He graduated from Bentley College in Boston and then earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Northeastern University. He was a veteran of World War II, served in the U.S. Army in Europe through Belgium, Germany, and then in France. He was a member of the Greek American Legion Post 1 in Lowell. He was a member of the Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church for many years. Before retiring, Mr. Sotakos had a distinguished career with the Shawmut Bank in Boston, where he was a Vice president in the Commercial Lending Department. During his working years, he was active in numerous community and professional organizations among them Greater Boston Banker's Association, the Lowell YMCA Alumni Association, the Lowell High School Reunion Committee. Following his retirement, he continued working as a Financial Consultant to the Demoulas Foundation for 15 years. Mr. Sotakos is survived by two daughters, Nancy Richards and her husband, Leonard of Chelmsford, and Donna Pitsilkas and her husband, Ilias of Evia, Greece; a granddaughter, Kaitlyn Richards; a grandson, Stephen Richards; a brother, Nick Sotakos of New York City and Lowell; a brother-in-law Nick Vinios and his wife, Jean of Dover, MA; and several nieces and nephews, and godchildren. He was the brother of the late Anne T. Sotakos, and brother-in-law of the late John Vinios. SOTAKOS In Lowell, June 27, 2008, at D'Youville Senior Care, Stephen J. Sotakos of Lowell, husband of the late Christine (Vinios) Sotakos. Friends may call at the O'DONNELL FUNERAL HOME, 276 PAWTUCKET ST. at Fletcher from 3 to 8 P.M., Sunday. His funeral will take place from the funeral home Monday morning at 10 o'clock followed by a Funeral Service at the TRANSFIGURATION GREEK ORTHODOX CHURCH at 11 o'clock. Burial in the Westlawn Cemetery. Those wishing may make contributions in his memory to the Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church, Fr. I was sad to hear of Mr.Sotakos passing ,he was such a dear man. Iwas the receptionist at Demoulas headquaters the years that he was in charge of the Foundation It was always nice to hear his good morning Sarah...I know he will be greatly missed by family and friends...
