Virginia Kalergis Obituary

Virginia I. (Dobson) Kalergis
Loving mother and grandmother

In the early morning hours of February 3, 2012, many hearts were broken with the passing of Virginia (Dobson) Kalergis, a faithful daughter, loving wife, amazing mother, sister, aunt, cousin, Nouna and friend. Virginia, a resident of Greenbriar Terrace in Nashua for the past four years, left this earth surrounded with the love of her children and family.

Born in Lowell, MA, on July 9, 1928, Virginia was the only daughter of the late Winifred and David W. Dobson.

She was the beloved wife of the late Nicholas G. Kalergis to whom she was married in 1950. She was the sister of the late David G. and Robert I. Dobson, and sister-in-law of the late James, Gregory and Potoula Kalergis.

"Dobby," as she was nicknamed, grew up in Lowell, MA, and graduated from Lowell High School.

She became a Registered Nurse and worked at Lowell General Hospital for 40 years as a Labor and Delivery nurse where she brought thousands of babies into the world. She was very outgoing -- treating every new person she met as a forever friend. In quiet times, she enjoyed knitting, painting, reading, gardening and fishing at "the beach." In her daredevil days, she parasailed, bungee jumped and road the stratosphere coaster. She traveled to Greece, England, Scotland, Mexico, and throughout the US with her husband, children, family and friends.

Throughout her life, Virginia gave so much of herself to everyone around her, always putting the needs of others before her own. She was an inspiration to all who knew her. We will miss her smile, her laughter, and always ready advice. We hope she knew what a difference it made to have her strength to lean on, her honesty to trust in and her passion of life to share.

Virginia will be deeply missed but remembered fondly by her family, including five daughters, Joanna Eckstrom and her husband, Bob of Wilton, NH, Karen Kalergis of Austin, Texas, Lani Becker and her husband, Ken of Vero Beach, FL, Cinde Ulman and her husband, Robert of Honolulu, and Lisa Tompkins and her husband, Bobby Joe; and one son, Nick Kalergis and his wife, Leann of Westford, MA; seven cherished grandchildren, Jesse Hotle, Kim Becker Weber, Lisa Becker Miller, Nicholas Kalergis III, Gregory Kalergis, Alexis Tompkins, and Christopher Tompkins; several great-grandchildren.

Virginia also leaves behind sisters-in-law, Pota Kalergis and Mary Dobson; nieces Marina Meade, Sandy Mejias, Doreen St. Laurent, Brenda Turcotte, and Debbie Bunch; nephews, David C. and David G. Dobson, and George, Buddy and David Kalergis. Also grieving her loss are cousins, Irene, Warren, Shirley and Jack; her card-playing buddies in Texas, Lowell, and Seabrook; her Labor & Delivery nurse colleagues from LGH; and her "adopted" family at Greenbriar.

KALERGIS -- In Nashua, February 3, 2012. Virginia I. (Dobson) Kalergis, formerly of Lowell, aged 83 years. She was the beloved wife of the late Nicholas G. Kalergis. To the entire Kalergis clan -
I have many, many memories of family times together with Virginia, Aunt Winnie, Aunt Gladys and others at my grandmother's or at Aunt Winnie's. Rounds of cards, board games or just telling stories of life in and around Lowell. There were other times eating at George's. It was my first introduction to Greek food (which I now love a lot and was helpful for my year living in Athens). Virginia was a wonderful woman, great mother and a real friend to my mother - really more of a sister. She was a lot of fun and very caring and compassionate person.

May you all be blessed with the memories of Virginia and never doubt her love for all of you. May God bless you all in the coming days, months and years as you move forward.

In Loving memory,

Kathy (Kelley) Moore and family
