LOWELL -- William James Becht, III, a Highlands resident, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Monday, February 13, 2017. He was 70 years old.

Bill was born in Lowell on December 5, 1946, a son of the late William J. Becht, Jr. and Kathleen A. (Letford) Becht. He was educated in the Lowell Schools and was a graduate of Lowell High School, Class of 1965, where he was captain of the Golf Team.

Bill was an Air Force Veteran of the Vietnam War. He was served in Vietnam during the Tet Offensive and was proud of his USAF Service.

Upon returning home from the war, Bill was employed at the Courier Citizen as a printer, a job he held for over 20 years. In retirement he worked for the City of Lowell as a School Crossing Guard.

Bill loved the game of golf. He loved to play and watch religiously on TV. He was a big fan of the New England Sports Teams, especially the Boston Red Sox. Bill also liked to take trips to the beach and leisurely rides with his mother.

Bill is survived by his loving sister Judith M. (Becht) Cote and her husband Daniel Cote; two nieces who are also his God Daughters, Heather (Becht) Workman and her husband Joe Workman, and Ashley (Cote) Benedict and her husband Ryan Benedict. Bill was the brother of the late Brian Becht who died in 1977.

BECHT -- In Lowell, February 13, 2017 at his home, William J. Becht, III, age 70, a Lowell resident and the beloved brother of Judy Cote. Family and friends may call at the FAY McCABE FUNERAL HOME, 105 MOORE STREET, LOWELL on FRIDAY from 8:30 AM until 9:30 AM, followed by his FUNERAL MASS at 10 o'clock at ST. MARGARET CHURCH, 374 Stevens St., Lowell. Burial in the family lot in St. Patrick Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy, donations in Bill's memory made to Veterans Assisting Veterans Fund, PO Box 274, Dracut, MA 01826-0274.
