William O'Connell Obituary

William T. O'Connell of Haverhill, formerly of Lowell, 68 Haverhill William T. O'Connell, 68, of Haverhill, died peacefully at his home on Monday, September 8, 2008, surrounded by his loving family and friends. Born and raised in Lowell, son of the late William and Marie (Trudeau) O'Connell, he graduated from Lowell High School with the Class of 1958 and attended Merrimack College. A member of the Pipefitters Local # 537 since 1964, he was a graduate of the Pipefitters Apprentice Program and retired in 2002. Since 2004, he was a dedicated and valued member of the staffs of Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home of Plaistow, NH. and Berube-Comeau Funeral Home of Haverhill. Mr. O'Connell served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army National Guard from 1962 until 1968 and has been a resident of Haverhill for over forty years. He was a member of All Saints Parish of Haverhill and the former St. Rita's Parish and former Saint Joseph Parish. A former St. Joseph Little League coach and avid Red Sox fan, he also enjoyed golfing, NASCAR, and trips to Disney World and the beach with his family. He also took great pride in his yard and enjoyed the many hours planting flower gardens and maintaining and manicuring his lawn. Survivors include his beloved wife and best friend of forty-three years, Patricia (Zangari) O'Connell, a son and daughter-in-law, Haverhill Police Officer William T. Jr. and Linda O'Connell, of Haverhill, daughter and son-in-law, Pamela A. and Michael Spence of Haverhill, and daughter Michele M. O'Connell of Methuen, sister and brother-in-law, Carolyn and Edward Clancy of Chelmsford, grandchildren, Devon, Dylan and Abigail O'Connell, God-children, James Clancy, Eileen Gagnon and Christine Gagne, seven sisters-in-law, three brothers-in-law, and numerous nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. OCONNELL Relatives and friends may call on Friday, September 12, 2008, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main St., Route 121A, Plaistow, NH. His funeral will be held on Saturday at 8:45 a.m. from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in All Saints Church, Haverhill. Burial will follow in Saint Patrick's Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to All Saints Parish, 120 Bellevue Avenue, Haverhill, MA 01832 or to the Sophia Gordon Cancer Center, c/o Lahey Clinic, Philanthropy Department, 41 Mall Road, Burlington,MA 0180
