Bennie was born Oct. 7, 1935, in Cannon, Mississippi, to the union of Henry and Ethel Mack.
Bennie graduated from Elston Sr. High School in 1954. After graduation, he enlisted into the United States Air Force. Once he completed his mission in the armed forces, he then met Ann Kelly in 1954. He married Ann Kelly in 1960.
In his younger days, he organized singing groups like The Deep South Singers of Las Vegas, Nevada, The Five Travelers of Michigan City, Indiana, The Kelly Sisters, and The Harmoneers of Michigan City, Indiana. Bennie enjoyed pitching horseshoes, dancing, fishing, bowling, playing cards, family gatherings and traveling in his earlier days. But his greatest joy of them all was visiting nursing homes and visiting the sick in the hospitals, teaching them the word of God for nearly 40 years. He also loved teaching Sunday school. Bennie was a member of the deacon board at Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church, where he also sang with the senior choir.
A Celebration of Life will be Saturday, Sept. 4, 2021, at Mt. Zion Church, 123 Helen St., Michigan City, IN, 46360, at 11 a.m. with viewing from 10 a.m. until time of service. Burial to follow at Swan Lake Memorial Gardens.
