Betty Ruth (Jardine) Kessler, 95, of La Porte, Indiana, passed on Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2021, surrounded by family.

Betty was born Aug. 25, 1926, in Kansas City, Kansas, and adopted as an infant by Edmund and Alvina (Malchow) Jardine.

Betty was a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a life member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ. She was a secretary for both the La Porte County Fair Board and for the Michigan City Area Schools superintendent. She served as a Cub Scout and Girl Scout leader and a volunteer for the American Cancer Society and La Porte County Democratic Party.

On April 4, 1948, Betty married Robert Walter Kessler, who preceded her in death along with her parents. She is survived by one daughter, Karen (Mark) Hoffmann of Chapel Hill, North Carolina; two sons, Garry (Jeanne) Kessler of La Porte, Indiana, and Barry Kessler of La Porte, Indiana; eight grandchildren, Brett (Heather) Kessler, Erik (Alexis) Kessler, Dr. Chris (Jessica) Kessler, Kathryn (Chris) Dragan, Clint (Sara) Kessler, Alison Kessler, Jon (Kathleen) Hoffmann and Dr. Jennifer Hoffmann; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will precede the funeral from 9:30 a.m. to 12 noon on Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2021, at Frank L. Keszei Funeral Home, Essling Chapel, 1117 Indiana Avenue, La Porte, Indiana.

Funeral services will be at 12 noon on Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2021, at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Pine Lake Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to La Porte County Fair, 2581 IN-2, La Porte, IN, 46350, or La Porte County Meals on Wheels, 620 Boston St, La Porte, IN, 46350.
