Constance Watts Obituary

Constance Darlene (Coleman) Watts, a cherished and vibrant soul, passed away peacefully on Dec. 17, 2025, in Michigan City, Indiana.

Born on Jan. 30, 1953, in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, to the late Nathaniel Coleman Sr. and Bennie Lee Anthony-Coleman, she was preceded in death by son, Jackie Watts Jr.; three brothers, Nathaniel Coleman Jr., John Coleman and James Coleman Sr.; a sister, Mary McCray; mother-in-law, Alicia Watts; sisters-in-law, Eular Coleman, Willetta Coleman, Lorraine Facey and Janet Shackleford; and brothers-in-law, John "Skippy" McCray and Mark Watts.

Her life was enriched by her marriage to her beloved husband, Jackie Watts Sr., with whom she shared love and memories with 55 years of marriage.

Connie's legacy is carried on by her devoted children, Jeanal (Sam) Watts-Johnson and Jerome (Melissa) Watts Sr.; her godchildren, Keith Gregory Jr. and Michelle Gregory; and her treasured grandchildren, Anthony Watts-May, Elexus Jones, Jaylen Jemison, Jerome Watts II, Justin Watts, Jordan Watts, Vaunte' Johnson, Tristan Watts, Isaac Watts, Samuel S. Johnson, Isiah Watts, Jayden Watts and Jaslyn Watts; and god-grandchildren, Cruz and Connor Gregory. Her joy was further multiplied by her great-grandchildren, Kyrie Walker and Jerome Watts III, and the anticipation of another great-grandchild on the way.

Connie's family circle includes her surviving brother, Ronald Coleman; and special cousin, Patsy Jones. She held a special place in her heart for her nieces, Starr (Edward) Durham and Beverly (John) Tullis; and special nephew, James "Jimmy" (Sovannia) Coleman Jr., who were raised as her siblings. Her family extended to her brother-in-law, Lewis Watts; and sisters-in-law, Ginger (Stanley) Nevels and Melody Watts; and aunt, Earnestine Parrish.

Connie's education began at Conemaugh Valley High School in Johnstown, Pennsylvania. Her work ethic was evident through her dedicated service at Penelec Electric Company for five years, Jaymar Ruby Factory for 10 years and the United States Postal Service for 28 years. Her commitment to her community was reflected in her involvement with various associations throughout her life.

A devout Christian, Connie was baptized at Mount Sinai Church in Pennsylvania. After relocating to Michigan City, Indiana, she became a member of the former Mount Zion Missionary Baptist, now known as Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church, where she served on The Missions Auxiliary with fervor and grace.

Connie's interests were as diverse as her friendships. She nurtured relationships with a wide circle of special friends, including Mary and Keith Gregory Sr., Vanessa Byrd-Fry, Maxine Hawkins, Mother Bertha Ansley, Faye Cunningham, Faye Moore, Doris Tillman, Janet Thomas, Shirley Myers, Denise Stribland, Renita Burton, Toni Bradley, "Buster" Gordon, Beatrice Jackson, Charlene Dukes, Pam Nash, Elaine Gibson, Roberta Harris, Joann Jackson, Rita Buchanan, Cynthia Willis, Lavonne Taylor, Sherisa Marley, Marcia Byers, Ruthie Taylor, and William and Queen Ester Mack, among many others.
