Elaine E. Burkhart, 92, of Michigan City, Indiana, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2025, at 6:02 p.m. in her home.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 6, 2025, at St. John's United Church of Christ, 101 St. John Road, Michigan City, Indiana, with Pastor Jim King officiating. Entombment will follow in Swan Lake Memorial Gardens, Michigan City, Indiana. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of service Monday at the church. The Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, Michigan City, Indiana, is handling the arrangements.
She was born on Sept. 8, 1933, in La Porte, Indiana, to the late Owen and Caroline (Spier) Parker. On May 5, 1967, in Michigan City, Indiana, she married Robert James Burkhart, who preceded her in death Nov. 28, 2013.
Surviving are her son, James (Karen) Cox of Michigan City, Indiana; daughter, Vicky Cox Rossi of Pearl River, New York; six siblings, Lois Rajak of La Porte, Indiana, Howard Parker of Sikeston, Missouri, Jerry (Patty) Parker and Carol (Scott) Snyder, both of La Porte, Indiana, and Cheri (Scott) Parker Collins and Denise Souza, both of California; five grandchildren, Joseph (Jennifer) Rossi, Tammy Fulwilder, Antonia (Joe) Indovino, Jennifer (Brian) Bond and Emily (Mark) Murdock; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; longtime special friend, Karen Lawrenz; and neighbor, Ray Peterson.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert Burkhart; two step-sons, Terry and Larry Burkhart; one sister, Barbara Macalka; sister-in-law, Jeanette Parker; and granddaughter, Tracy Losiniecki.
Elaine was a active and lifelong member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Michigan City. She was a big part of the church over the years, being involved in St. John's Consistory, Good-timers, the Woman's Guild and St. Anthony Guild. She participated in Mother and Daughter Tea, grounds beautification, outside projects for holidays and Christmas, funeral luncheons, and ushering. She enjoyed gardening and taking the grandchildren on vacation. Also, Elaine was a former member of Women of the Moose.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. John's Guild, 101 St. John Rd. Michigan City, IN 46360, and/or to Aseracare Hospice, 808 Vale Park Road, Suite 200, Valparaiso, Indiana 46383.
