Georgenia "Genia" Poteet, 66, died of complications due to Progressive Supra Nuclear Palsy, which she courageously fought since 2016.
Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 12, 2021, at the Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, 418 Washington St., Michigan City, Indiana.
She was born Feb. 5, 1955, in La Porte, Indiana.
Surviving are her husband, Herschel Poteet of La Porte, Indiana; ex-husband, Keith Houchins; daughter, Crystal (John Giaimo) Houchins; son, Nicholas (Valarie Berrios) Houchins; two grandchildren, Zachary Thompson and Jayden Berrios; stepson, Jason (Marlo Dworsky) Poteet; four sisters, Sandra (Harold) Rozinski, Sharlene (Russell) Holm, Rhea (Mitchell) Rench Shrum and Regenia (Paul) Zubrys; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Tonya Houchins; mother, Ruthe Rench; father, George Bartos; stepfather, Ralph Richard Rench; and two brothers, Gerald and Jeffery Bartos.
She was a Credit Development Manager for Allegius Credit Union in Burns Harbor, Indiana. She graduated from New Buffalo High School and had taken many job-related classes and attended many seminars.
Genia enjoyed baking, decorating her house and yard for Christmas and going out on Friday nights with friends. Her smile and bright eyes lit up any room she entered. To know her was to love her.
