Hendrikien Dykstra, 94, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2022, while surrounded by her loving family.
Hendrikien, also known as "Henny' to her friends and "Beppie ' to her children and many others, was born Dec. 19, 1927, in Roden, Netherlands, to Harm Glas and Froukje (Lafantaine) Glas.
On Nov. 6, 1948, in the Netherlands, she married Egbert Dykstra, who preceded her in death Oct. 9, 1995.
She was the second of seven siblings and lovingly known by her siblings and close friends as a prankster with a very jovial charismatic energy and often the life of any party.
Henny/Beppie had many talents. She was an expert seamstress, gardener, quilter, knitter and crocheter. Henny also enjoyed canning, making homemade wine and cooking for family and friends. Henny loved to travel, explore and learn about other cultures.
Henny was known to be strong-willed, brave, non-filtered and have a huge heart. Always willing to help others in need. Never turning anyone away that she could assist. Henny never knew a stranger and always made friends and acquaintances feel special and cared for.
Henny retired after a 21 year employment from Howmet La Porte in 1989.
Henny is survived by her son, Ray Dykstra (Peggy) of Springfield, Illinois; daughter, Faye Wenzel of La Porte, Indiana; two brothers, Herman Glas and Wolter (Martha) Glas; three sisters, Trien Van Til-Glas, Tijts Posthuma-Glas and Froukje (Jan) Smit-Glas; and sister-in-law, Gertje Glas-Been; four grandchildren, Ecko Mann, Autumn (Sam) Kirk, Erin (Tim) Jenkins and Anneke Wenzel; and 13 great-grandchildren, Micah Mann, Elijah Mann, Ayla Mann, Lillian Kirk, Mikayla Kirk, Natalie Kirk, Clark Doucet, Camerin Doucet, Cayden Doucet, Elijah Jenkins, Layla Jenkins, Laynee Jenkins and TJ Jenkins.
Preceded in death by her parents; son, Remmelt Dykstra; son-in-law, Michael J. Wenzel; daughter-in-law, Marjory Sue Dykstra; brother, Jan Glas; sister, Jeltje Posthuma-Glas; sister-in-law, Diet Glas-Visser; and brothers-in-law, Pieter Van Til, Jarinus Posthuma and Eelke Postumus.
Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, Indiana. A celebration of life will take place at a later date.
