James V. Meehan, age 69, of Michigan City, Indiana, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2025, at his home with his devoted wife by his side.
He was born on Oct. 23, 1955, in Chicago, Illinois, to James I. and Margaret M. Meehan, who have preceded him in death. On Nov. 8, 1997, he married Nancy (Brakenridge) Meehan in Michigan City, who still resides there.
Jim is survived by his siblings, Mary Miller, Catherine Kurzhal, Michael (Jessica) and Patrick Meehan; his brother-in-law, Bob (Marianne) Brakenridge; and sister-in-law, Sue (Ed) Adams. There are many nieces, nephews, great- nieces and -nephews who loved him. His is also preceded in death by his sisters-in-law, Barbara Tweedy and Ruth Olesky; and niece, Lindsay Hartley.
He proudly served in the U.S. Army and the National Guard. He was a lieutenant at the Indiana State Prison in Michigan City when he retired.
He enjoyed nature, star gazing, air shows and loved the Grand Prix boat races. He also spent his lifetime fishing. He was a person who always went out of his way to help someone. A special thank you to the kind neighbors, Liz and Thomas Grathwohl, for their unceasing helpful care of Jim during his last week at home.
