Joan Freeman Obituary
Joan Irene Freeman, 91, of Granger died at Memorial Hospital on Friday, Oct. 28, 2022.
She was born on Aug. 9, 1931, in La Porte, Indiana, to Raymond and Della (Jones) Barthel. On June 10, 1950, Joan married Marvin G. Freeman Jr. in Union Mills, Indiana.
Marvin and Joan owned and operated Freeman's Sundries and Lunch in Union Mills for many years.
Joan was a member of Bethel Presbyterian Church, Union Mills, Indiana, as well as Canasta Club of Union Mills. She was a former card shark at Whispering Pines in Mishawaka, Indiana.
Joan was predeceased by her parents and her sister, Joyce Anderson; and her brother, Michael Barthel.
She is survived by her four children, Cynthia (Thomas) Blicher of Granger, Indiana, Roger (Connie) Freeman of St. Louis, Missouri, Joanie Freeman of Mishawaka, Indiana, and Marvin (Laura) Freeman of Warrior, Alabama. Her eight grandchildren are Eric (Beth) Freeman, Julie McCullough, LeeAndra Fouts (Dominic Buccalo), Ashlee (Jason) Cavanaugh, Kaitlyn Rokosz, Alexa (Brandon) Williamson, Heather (Jorge) Polanco and Kristopher (Lyndey) Freeman.
She has 13 great grandchildren, Drew, Logan, Eliana, Nathan, Luke, Matthew, carter, Rae Ann, Xander, Blayne, Gabriella, Esmeralda and Sadie (on her way). Her great-great-granddaughter is McKenzie. Joan's special friends are Mary Jane Gayda and Marsha Masterson.
Services for Joan will be on Friday, Nov. 4, at 11 a.m. (CT) at the Bethel Presbyterian Church, 110 E. Hamilton St., Union Mills, Indiana, with a visitation one hour prior to the services. Pastor Bill Rogers will officiate, with burial to follow at Union Mills Cemetery.
The family thanks the nurses and staff of Trailpoint Village and Nurse Steve and Dr. Zimmer of Memorial Hospital ER.
