John W. Cummings, 81, of Tucson, Arizona, formerly of Michigan City, passed away on Oct. 10, 2025, at Tucson Medical Center in Tucson, Arizona.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2025 at noon at the Root Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Swan Lake Memorial Gardens. Viewing will be held on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until noon at the funeral home.
John was born Sept. 14, 1944, in Osceola, Arkansas, to the late JM and Ruby (West) Cummings.
On Oct. 23, 1965 he married Patricia K. Qualls in New Buffalo, Michigan who is surviving in Tucson, Arizona.
Also surviving are two daughters, Patricia D. (Bernard M.) Hebel and Shannon B. (James A.) Warren; five grandchildren, Brandi L. (Kevin M) Buck, Rebecca G. (Johnny) Peterson, John C. (Katie) Hebel, Angelica M. Warren and Austin J. Warren; 11 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Kathleen Cummings; brother-in-law, Thomas Pope and many loved extended family members and friends.
He is preceded in death by one daughter, Angela G. Cummings; sisters and brothers, Betty Jean Pope, Dorothy D. and Arnold Benson, Don E. Cummings, Bobbie Gail Cummings and James O. Cummings; stepfather, Karl J. Everly, mother-in-law, Ada L. "Lucy" Klemz and father-in-law, Thomas R. Qualls.
John lived in Michigan City for 71 years before moving to Tucson four years ago. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in April 1965 and received an honorable discharge in May of 1965. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
