Joyce Capron Obituary
Joyce Joan Capron, 91, of La Porte, Indiana, passed away Friday, May 20, 2022, at home with her family by her side.
She was born Sept. 5, 1930, in La Porte, Indiana, the daughter of Raymond Meinke and Viola (Cook) Meinke/Perkins.
Joyce spent some of her childhood in Baldwin, Michigan, but spent most of her life in La Porte. She worked as a packer for Whirlpool Corp. until her retirement in 1991.
Joyce was a loving mother and grandmother who worked very hard to support and care for her family. She loved being on her computer and playing all kinds of cards, like poker and pinochle, which she taught to her children and grandchildren.
She also taught them to cook, and to this day her granddaughter still makes several items, like mashed potatoes, exactly the way grandma did.
Joyce enjoyed traveling to Vegas and doing a little gambling, and throughout her life she rescued many cats and kittens, sometimes having several at a time.
She will be greatly missed by her surviving children, Larry (Jackie) Capron of Houston, Texas, Lynda King of La Porte, Indiana, and Nancy (Mark Talerico) Moisan of La Porte; brother, Raymond Meinke, Jr. of Baldwin, Michigan; sister, Norma Johnson of South Bend; grandchildren, Jeremy (Laurie) Capron, Mindy (Billy) King, Corey (Tracy) King, Michelle (Walter) Conlin, Dustin (Stephanie) Moisan and Lindsay Barth; nine great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, son Duane Capron; and grandson, Jordan King.
Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home, Pre-Need and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, Indiana. Cremation will take place, with final burial of cremated remains with her mother in Pine Lake Cemetery. This will be a private, family only, interment.
Memorial contributions may be made in Joyce's honor to the La Porte Small Animal Shelter, 2855 IN-2, La Porte, IN, 46350.
