Margarita "Eta" DeAnda, age 94, of Michigan City, Indiana, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loved ones at the home of her granddaughter, Kristen Schroeder, on Monday, Jan. 31, 2022.
Margarita was born on June 10, 1927, in Orizaba, Veracruz, Mexico, to Esequiel and Luz Vega, who both preceded her in death. She moved to Michigan City as a nanny in 1943 and became a proud U.S. citizen in April of 1983.
Margarita is survived by her children, Betty Ramsey, Pablo DeAnda, Irma Schroeder, Jose Louis (Carmen) DeAnda and Patricia (Joe) Firanek; grandchildren, Aaron Ramsey, Jennifer Ramsey, Catherina DeAnda, Kristen (David Guard) Schroeder, Nikole (Rob) Evener, Alex Firanek, Andrew Schroeder, Raychelle DeAnda and Jason DeAnda; eight great-grandchildren; very special friends, Iresema Valdez, Liz Westphal, Maria Elena Cardenas, Teresa Moron and Luz Maria Valdez; former son-in-law, Tom (Brenda) Schroeder; many loving nieces and nephews; and beloved canine companion, Cleo.
She was preceded in death by her parents; grandson, Adam Paul Schroeder, sister, Julia Garcia; and ex-husband, Macario C. DeAnda.
Margarita was a former member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and LULAC, as well as the Queen of All Saints Spanish Mass group. She enjoyed singing in the church choir, dancing, praying the rosary and cooking. Margarita took pride in working in her garden and loved celebrating holidays and decorating her house for them. She enjoyed entertaining her family and music.
Margarita loved children and enjoyed babysitting for the MOPS program at Countryside Christian Church and volunteering at St. Stanislaus School and Resale on behalf of her beloved grandchildren. She also loved taking photographs which left her adoring family with a plethora of memories. Margarita will be deeply missed by all who knew her. A special thanks is extended to her loving caregivers, Irasema Valdez, Marcie Bradford, Pearl Byers and Ryndee Colón, and Dunes Hospice. Also, special thanks to Tom and Brenda Schroeder, and David Guard for their exceptional help and love throughout the years.
Friends are invited to visit with Margarita's family on Sunday, Feb. 6, 2022, from 2 to 6 p.m. at Geisen-Carlisle Funeral Home, 613 Washington St., Michigan City, IN, 46360. Additional visitation will take place from 9 a.m. until time of Funeral Mass on Monday, Feb. 7, 2022, at 10 a.m. at Queen of All Saints Catholic Church, 1725 E. Barker Ave, Michigan City, IN. 46360. Burial to follow at St. Stanislaus Cemetery.

Margarita was full of life, laughter, joy, smiles, worked hard for her family, helped others and loved God, always. Great memories! My condolences to her family.
