Patrick J. Mulchay, 80, of Chesterton, Indiana, passed away at 3:25 p.m. Monday, Nov. 14, 2022.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 18, 2022, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 638 N. Calumet Road, Chesterton, Indiana, with Rev. Jon J. Plavcan officiating. Burial will follow in Chesterton Cemetery, Chesterton, Indiana. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, 418 Washington St., Michigan City, Indiana, and from 9 to 10 a.m. Friday at the church.
He was born March 17, 1942, in Waco, Texas, to the late Edward and Genevieve (Senderak) Mulchay. On Aug. 28, 1965, in Michigan City, Indiana, he married Jacqueline E. Mikulski, who survives in Chesterton.
He is also survived by his son, Michael (Kristina) Mulchay, and beloved grandson, Patrick of Chesterton, Indiana; as well as his sister, Sr. Kathleen Mulchay, SSCM of Ortonville, Michigan.
Patrick was also preceded in death by his in-laws, Walter "Lefty" and Josephine Mikulski of Michigan City, Indiana; and brother-in-law, Terrence Mikulski of Trail Creek, Indiana.
He graduated n 1959 from Elston High School in Michigan City. Upon graduation, he served honorably in the U.S. Army. He graduated with distinction from Purdue North Central in 1976. Patrick also earned his M.B.A. from the University of Notre Dame in 1989.
Patrick retired from the Northern Indiana Public Service Company (NIPSCO) and its parent company, NiSource, after a 42 year career, which saw him rise from a laborer to the president and CEO of NIPSCO and finally an executive vice-president of NiSource.
He was an avid golfer, enjoyed traveling with family, was a long-time Purdue football season ticket holder and John Purdue Club member.
