Robert Walter Kessler, 97, of La Porte, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, June 30, 2021.
Robert (Bob) was born Oct. 4, 1923, in Blue Island, Illinois, to the late Walter and Ella (Brettin) Kessler.
Robert was a lifelong farmer. He was a life member of the St Paul's United Church of Christ. He was a past president of the La Porte County Fair Board and served as a Board Member of the La Porte County Farm Bureau Co-op, the Soil and Water Conservation District, the La Porte Drainage Board, and the La Porte Health Board. He was also a member of the Kiwanis Club, and served on the La Porte County 4-H Council.
On April 4, 1948, Robert married Betty Ruth Jardine, who survives along with one daughter, Karen (Mark) Hoffmann of Chapel Hill, North Carolina; two sons, Garry (Jeanne) Kessler of La Porte, Indiana, and Barry Kessler of La Porte, Indiana; eight grandchildren, Brett (Heather) Kessler, Erik (Alexis) Kessler, Dr. Chris (Jessica) Kessler, Katharine Kessler, Clint (Sara) Kessler, Alison Kessler, Jon (Kathleen) Hoffmann and Dr. Jennifer Hoffmann; and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, James Kessler.
Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, July 6, 2021, at Frank L. Keszei Funeral Home, Essling Chapel, 1117 Indiana Avenue, La Porte, Indiana.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 7, 2021, at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Pine Lake Cemetery.
