Shirley M. Ryan, age 95, passed away June 20, 2024, in Michigan City, Indiana.
Shirley was born on Oct. 23, 1928, in La Porte, Indiana, to Walter and Katherine (Boyce) Rheinholtz, who preceded her in death.
Shirley is survived by her children, Kevan Ryan, Jann Ryan, Lynn Ryan and Beth (David) Jarnutowski; her grandchildren, Sara Glowacki and Hayden Jarnutowski; great-grandchildren, Owen Moisan and Laine Moisan; and sister, Tammy Westphal.
Shirley is also preceded in death by her husband of 51 beautiful years, Darrell Ryan.
Shirley, with her husband Darrell, were devoted members of First Presbyterian Church in Michigan City and together they were honored as Heritage Persons. Shirley started at First Presbyterian Church as a Sunday school teacher. She later ran several committees and was also elected as deaconess and elder throughout her years at church. Shirley was a member of the Wednesday Evening Circle. The Circle volunteered with Coffee Hour, funeral services and luncheons and many other church events. Shirley was also a proud member and past president of P.E.O. Chapter BR, as well as a past president of Service League.
Shirley, with her lifelong friend, Donna Wiseman, won the Indiana Community Theatre League's Outstanding Achievement Certificate for their work on the set of "The Belle of Amherst."
Shirley was committed to her faith, her family and her community. She was loved and adored by all who knew her and she will be dearly missed.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Geisen-Carlisle Funeral Home, 613 Washington Street, Michigan City, Indiana. Private services will be held for the family.
Memorial contributions may be made in Shirley's name to First Presbyterian Church, 121 W. 9th Street, Michigan City, Indiana.
