Bernice Lucille "Lucy" Hubbard

Bernice Hubbard Obituary

Bernice Lucille "Lucy" Hubbard Lake Ann, MI Bernice Lucille "Lucy" Hubbard, 90, of Lake Ann, went into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior at her home on Wednesday, May 28, 2008. Born December 6, 1917, in Jackson, she was the daughter of Dalton and Nellie (Sweazey) Foster. Lucy lived in Jackson until she was three years old, later moving to Alma in 1921, where her father started the Foster Bus Line until 1936. She was a graduate of Alma High School in 1935 and attended the Lansing Business University. Lucy met and married the love of her life, Edward Theodore "Ted" Hubbard, in June 1939. She had been employed with Farm Bureau in Lansing before working for 25 years for Dr. Ruth Snyder, an ophthalmologist in East Lansing, where she retired. Lucy and Ted wintered in Clearwater, FL, for 20 years before permanently moving up north to their summer home in Lake Ann. In Florida, she was an active member of the Presbyterian church, and currently was a member of Lake Ann United Methodist Church. On December 6, 2007, Lucy celebrated her 90th birthday with an open house party of more than 40 of her friends and relatives attending. She enjoyed fishing, crafts, baking and watching sports on television. She was a devoted wife and loving mother, and will be fondly remembered for her gift of compassion to others; and she was a friend to many. Lucy is survived by her two sons, Jon Hubbard of Lake Ann (fiancee, Laura J. Brighan-Anderson), and Gary (Judy) Hubbard of Munday, Texas; brothers, Jack (Mary) Foster of Charlevoix and Bob (Sheila) Foster of Portland; grandsons, Randy and family of Arizona, Nathan and family of Arizona, Brian and fiancee, Sarah of Texas, Aaron and family of Texas, Jonathan of Texas and Michael of Colorado; Michael's mother, Pat Hubbard; many nieces; three great-grandsons; nephews; several step-great-grandchildren; and her special 'daughter', Marie Zapf. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ted, and her parents. Visitation will be held on Friday, May 30, from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City. Funeral services will be at the downtown Lake Ann United Methodist Church on Saturday, May 31, at 1:00 p.m., with Pastor/son, Gary Hubbard officiating, assisted by grandson, Nathan Hubbard. Cremation will take place, and her final resting place will be in the Mt. Hope Cemetery in Interlochen. Memorial contributions may be made to Munson Hospice of Traverse City, Lake Ann United Methodist Church, or any hospice or church of your choice. Kindly share your memories with the family on their online guest book at www.legacy.com/ record-eagle/. We are very sorry to hear of the passing of Lucy. We are so glad that we were able to visit her last summer. Lucy was such an upbeat person. Always smiling, seeing the best in every situation. We will miss her dearly. Our sympathies to all in the family. We are very sorry that due to events here in Troy today we are unable to attend the funeral.

You are in my thoughts and prayers. Lucy was wonderful to me and my family when I lost my parents and she took me under her wing during my sad time. She kept in touch thru the years and made me feel special. She was wonderful to my sister Pat and treated her as her own daughter even in recent times and I know Pat loved her as much as she did our own mother and she always wanted the best for Lucy. I know this is a hard time but the fond memories and love we all have for Lucy are the ones we should hold in our hearts forever. She is now with God and Ted and looking down on everyone and will take care of all her loved ones.

I just want to thank God for sharing Lucy with me, Pat & Mike. Michael couldn't have asked for a better Grandmother.
