Charles Reynolds Obituary

Charles E. Reynolds

Lansing - Charles passed away at McLaren Hospital, February 28, 2018, born September 6, 1936 in Keiser, AR, son of Irene and George Reynolds, the oldest of three children.

He had a warm and welcoming personality and it was easy to get a smile or laugh out of him. Charles had a natural talent for listening and interacting with people and accepted people for who they were. He attended school in Jackson and completed additional schooling in Lansing. In 1955, he was on the Jackson basketball team that won the State Championship. He also ran track, worked for the Recreation Dept. and coached a youth basketball team. His pool stick, now retired, has many miles on it; he loved music especially jazz, blues and country western. He enjoyed cooking and sharing meals with family and friends. Travel was high on his list and he possibly visited every major city in the U.S. either for business or pleasure, and also vacationed in Jamaica and the Bahamas. In 2008 after he lost his mobility, he still remained the upbeat person everyone knew. Some of his happiest times were when friends visited him celebrating the holidays. When the TV show Jeopardy came on he was a fierce competitor and welcomed the exercise. Each day he awoke with a thankful prayer to the Lord that he'd been given another day. On that fateful day he departed, the world lost a good man. He was employed in Admin, Clark Equipment, Jackson, MI prior to relocating to Lansing. He began his career with General Motors, Fisher Body Div. in 1971 and retired as an Administrator in June 1993 with 22 years of service.

Charles had one marriage to Inez Crittendon, three children, Michael and Wanakee Pugh whom he raised as his own, and one son Gregory born to this union. His ex-wife survives.

Preceding him in death were his parents, one brother Eddie, both sons Michael and Gregory and one niece Amber Reynolds.

He leaves to cherish his memory one daughter Wanakee Pugh; two sisters Margaret Reynolds in Lansing temporarily and Linda Townes, Jackson, MI; two nieces Kimberli Reynolds and Lianne Reynolds of California; three nephews Fordyce Townes, III, Atlanta, GA; Markas Townes, Jackson, MI; Tylin Sage Williams, California and a host of family and friends.

Services will be held at Paradise Funeral Chapel, 1107 E.Miller Rd, Lansing, MI, Sat. March 10, 2018, Family Hour 12:00-1:00 PM, followed by a brief homegoing service. In accordance with his wishes cremation will occur following the ceremony.

Charles was a good friend for many years. I just found out about his death and wanted to express my condolences to family and friends. He was a wonderful man who left a trail of positive memories.

There are so many things to say about "Chuck!" When I started working at Fisher Body as "The Black Woman" he took me under his wing, in a corporate culture of white or blue shirts and stripped ties. His shirts were always heavily starched "blinding" white. He said "I do not do wash and wear!" One day we were heavy into the "dozens" and I got "zinged!" My comeback was about his "barrel like chest!' He responded that "this is not chest. It's the home of a BIG HEART!" He was right - he had the biggest heart of all. I have too many stories to tell of some of our antics;we had a good time. He nicknamed me "Bit." and he named my then catering business "Cuisine by Donna!" I found a business card a few weeks ago and I could here him saying "Bit! What you cooking today!" Heaven has gotten a new angel. Thank you Charles Reynolds for all the lessons you taught me as a young woman; lessons I still carry with me.

Margaret, Wanakee, and relatives, Charles will be missed, but his impact on all will endure. We first met when we shared an office in the Labor Relations Department at Fisher Body when he joined General Motors. He and Inez were also neighbrs in Churchill Downs while sharing experiences of our children. In the last few years we shared many "coaching tips" for MSU coaches. Most of all, he was a lifelong friend and supporter. He was fortunate to have his sister Margaret as a caretaker. May he rest in peace. Gene & Mary O'Connor

When my late father retired from Fisher Body, Mr. Reynolds assisted my fragile father with the necessary paperwork. From what my parents recalled from this stressful and emotional experience, I learned that Mr. Reynolds was a very kind man.
