David Jerome Grachek
Lansing - David Jerome Grachek passed away Friday, July 16, 2021. He was born July 31, 1931 in Saginaw, Michigan to Florian Jankowski and Estelle Jarlaczynski. David was adopted December 14, 1943 and raised by Walter and Jane Grachek.
David graduated from Everett High School in 1950. He was active in the US Air Force from 1951 to 1955 and proudly served his country in the Korean War. He earned National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal. David was an airplane and engine mechanic.
On August 31, 1957 David married the love of his life, Irene Jankowski who he met at a church picnic. At MSU, David studied accounting. He worked for several businesses including; Diamond REO, Oldsmobile, AM General, Gilbert Commonwealth, Franklin Life, and Belltone.
David loved woodworking and building furniture for his wife, children, and grandchildren. He liked playing the accordion, gardening, reading, and fishing with his sons. David loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
He was a devoted member of St. Gerard Catholic Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He volunteered for Meals on Wheels for many years.
David was preceded in death by his birth parents; adoptive parents; sister, Dolores (Joseph) Baker; brother, Robert Jenkins; brother-in-law, Michael Haynes and grandson, Teddy Cimafranca.
Surviving are his loving wife of 63 years, Irene; children, Maureen (Scott) Tredwell, David J. (Donna) Grachek Jr., Karen (Theodore) Cimafranca, Nancy (Fred) Kapp, Paul (Shara) Grachek; grandchildren, Paul Tredwell and Rebecca Tredwell, Christina (Nicholas) Busse and Caroline Grachek, Jennifer (Ray Black) Dickey, Casey and Quentin Kapp, Darby and Brooks Grachek; great-grandchildren, Louisa Busse, Sierra Cimafranca, Grace Dickey, Laura and Lily Black and sister Kay Haynes.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am Saturday, July 24, 2021 at St. Gerard Catholic Church with Rev. Mark Martin presiding. The Rite of Committal will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00pm Friday and 10:00-11:00am Saturday at St. Gerard Catholic Church with the Rosary prayed at 7:30pm Friday. www.TiffanyFuneralHome.com
