Francis Turner Obituary
East Lansing - Francis Ray Turner of East Lansing passed away on October 30, 2020 peacefully at home. Born to parents Nada June Turner and Francis Elmer Turner, Ray (as he was known) graduated from Waverly High School in 1966 and went on to receive Bachelors and Masters degrees from Michigan State University. Married to Debera Lee Lynch (Turner) in 1968, who survives him, he is also survived by his sons William Alan Turner and Cullen Matthews Turner and sister Barbara Turner DeRose. He was a community actor, producer spending his career as an administrator and instructor at Lansing Community College. "Pop-pop" was grandfather to 4 (Cameron Patrick Turner, Sullivan Grace Turner, Gabriel Ray Turner and Broderick William Turner). Due to community health guidelines, an online memorial service will be held.

My deepest sympathy to Ray's family. I was neighbors to the Turner family for many years and friends with Ray's sister Barb. When Waverly was doing casting for the play Peter Pan, Ray encourage myself and Barb to try out for parts. I did try out and Ray gave me some suggestions, my first experience with theater for which I thank him. While I was not cast for that play, later in Jr High I did win the role of Sleeping Beauty in that play and would not have tried out if I had not known Ray years earlier. Ray was always friendly and kind to me whenever I saw him and I will remember him. This member of the Class of '73 Waverly HS extends prayers to all his family on his passing.

Sincere condolences to Ray's family from Waverly classmates.
We both enjoyed sharing the high school stage with such a talented actor as Ray when he played Jigger Craigin in the musical Carousel and Captain Hook in Peter Pan. For being such an affable good guy, he sure had a knack for playing the "bad guys." Thanks for the great memories, Ray.
