Jeanette Howard Obituary
Lansing, Michigan
A longtime member of Mount Hope Church, Jeanette Howard led a prayer-filled life, touching countless lives through her work with the church's outreach ministries. A retiree of the State of Michigan, she was a graduate of Buena Vista High School and Michigan State University, where she was a member of Sigma Gamma Ro sorority. Before suffering a massive stroke three years ago, friends and family knew her as a stylish, strikingly attractive woman of faith, often seen driving around town in her sporty, red convertible. She died March 14, 2015, at age 64.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Nathaniel Howard and Catherine Burkett; brother, Nate; and sister, Elizabeth Terrell. She is survived by her stepmother Wealthy Howard, who raised her after her mother died; brothers, John, Kenneth, Mark, Melvin, Roger and Stanley; children, Yolyn Hollingsworth (Kara), Catherine Hollingsworth Hamm (Anthony) and LaRissa McKissack (Bryan); ex-husband, Yolyn E. Hollingsworth, Sr.; 5 grandchildren, Gabrielle, Ahmyere, Asa, Anthony and Bella; and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held at 12:00 noon on Friday, March 20, 2015, at Mount Hope Church, 202 S. Creyts Rd., Lansing. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends and family one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the church. Arrangements are by the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel.

Oh, I'm so sorry to hear this news. Jeanette, Bev and I sat in the same home room through our Buena Vista years and had more fun than we probably should have. Jeanette was such a pleasant person it was hard not to have a good time with her. May she rest in peace and her family take comfort in all the wonderful memories they have of her.

Jeanette was a great friend during our high school years, we sat together in homeroom, (Howay, Howard) and many of our classes, I'll treasure our ride around town in my boyfriend's convertible the night of our graduation. Rest well my dear friend, love to your family, Bev Howay Lumsden
