I met John in 1978 and was blessed with his friendship, wit and warmth all these years. He is gone from us much too soon. His smile will remain with me as will memories of his many kindnesses to those in his life.

John's passing is such a blow. Our friendship means the world to me. My parents, the whole family loved him. We looked forward to everyone of his letters, they made us laugh til tears came.
So much remained unsaid in the past years.....

John's early passing is such a great loss. My deepest sympathy goes out to John's sisters and other family. John was a very smart and inquisitive man. He had a smile and a welcoming greeting for everyone. I will remember him for his love of art, history, architecture and travel, but perhaps most of all for his wit and keen insight into daily life and events. John was also very interested in his family history and genealogy, thus connecting with his love of history. I will be forever grateful for the things he taught me. His memory will always be with me. Peace to you John Leo.

My wife and I enjoyed getting to know John when he lived in Overland Park, KS where we attended many homes association events together. John was always quick with a smile and also had some great stories to share, usually about 'the architect vs. the federal judge'. Many a judge learned that the architect could not be intimidated, bullied or dismissed. John taught the skills of compromise to some very reluctant 'students'. He will be missed.

I extend my sincere sympathy to John's family. I knew him from his years in Indianapolis when we got together on several occasions for social events. I particularly enjoyed his sense of humor.
