John Speicher Obituary

John A. Speicher Okemos Born March 8, 1928, in Topeka, KS; died August 26, 2008, at the age of 80. John was an Eagle Scout and a veteran of WWII having served with the U.S. Navy. He was a Professor Emeritus of M.S.U. Department of Animal Science and a Dairy Extension Specialist. John served as County Dairy Agent in Lapeer County and was past Board Chairman of Starr Commonwealth Schools. He was the founding Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus Council #10006 and a member of St. Martha Parish, Okemos. John was preceded in death by a son, Paul, in 2004, a sister, Juanita, and her husband, Stanley Dice. Surviving are Lucille "Lucie", his wife of 50 years; daughters, Mary C. Speicher, Ann L. (William) Stamp and Jeanne M. (James) Klaes; sons, Rev. David J. Speicher and Kevin J. (Mary) Speicher; daughter-in-law, Shannon Speicher; 16 grandchildren; brother, Joseph W. (Ellen) Speicher; and sister, Doris A. (James) Hamlin. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, August 30, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Martha Parish, 1100 W. Grand River Ave., Okemos, with the Rev. David Speicher, officiating. The Rite of Committal will be held Saturday at 2:30 p.m. in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, with Military graveside services being provided by the American Legion Browne-Cavender Post #148, Mason. The family will receive friends at the Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 1730 E. Grand River Ave., East Lansing on Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., where the Rosary will be prayed at 6 p.m. and the Wake Service will be read at 7 p.m. The family will also receive friends at the church on Saturday 1 hour prior to the service. Those desiring may make contributions to St. Martha Parish; St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 955 Alton Rd., East Lansing, MI 48823; or to Visiting Nurse Hospice, 825 E. Michigan Ave., Lansing, MI 48912, in memory of John Speicher.
