Matthew Epstein Obituary

Matthew Herbert Epstein, PhD.

Okemos, Michigan

Born January 14, 1920 in Manhattan, New York son of the late Harry and Henrietta (Abramson) Epstein passed away at his home on Saturday, August 13, 2016 at age 96.

Surviving are his wife of 17 years, Charlene Epstein; children, Jonathan (Terry) Epstein, Seth Epstein, Evlynn Applebaum, and Anita (Perrin) Parkhurst; grandchildren, Evan, Rachel, Ashleigh (Ted), Drew (Kristen), and Whitney; great grandson, Hudson along with many nieces, nephews, and sister-in-law, Doris Shooman

Matthew was preceded in death by his first wife, Anne Epstein and his sister, Jean Breslau.

Dr. Epstein received his Doctorate from NYU, with his education being interrupted for 3 years for military service in the U.S. Army during WWII.  He served as a professor at MSU in the College of Social Science for 30 years, retiring in 1990.

A graveside service will take place at Beth Moses Cemetery in Pinelawn, New York.

Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Congregation Shaarey Zedek in East Lansing or Sparrow Home Hospice.

Char and Family, So sorry to read about Matthew, I will really miss him. when I came to cut his hair it was such a great time he always had a nice smile and was so nice, and Char what a great care giver they were met to be. So sorry for the lost. Bill Irrer
