Ruth Morley Obituary

Ruth "Marion" Morley Lansing Formerly of Sugar Island, MI. Ruth "Marion" Morley passed away peacefully January 12, 2011. She was born in Detroit, Michigan, November 2, 1919, to Raymond E. and Ruth L. (Osborn) Baxter. Marion lived a full life as she and Glen built homes in many locations in Michigan and Florida. She fearlessly mastered electrical wiring, drywall finishing, and all forms of arts and crafts creating many priceless treasures. Hunting and fishing in the Great Lakes were a big part of their life as they built a life on Sugar Island in the 50's and 60's. Marion bagged more than a few deer, and her share of northern pike. Marion was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Glenden Morley; infant daughter, Francis Jean Morley; sister, Joyce Turner; and her parents, Ruth and Ray Baxter. She is survived by her four children; Gerald B. Morley of FL, Janet (Chuck) Bumstead of Sault Ste. Marie, MI, Jon (Sharon) Morley of Sugar Island, MI, and Joanne (Bob) Garland of Lansing, MI; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Doris (Ed) Eldridge and Norma Wirick. Please visit with us at a Memorial Visitation Sunday, January 16, 2011 from 1-3 p.m. in the Ada Whitehouse Room at Burcham Hills Retirement Center, 2700 Burcham Drive, East Lansing, MI 48823. In lieu of flowers, please donate to a charity of your choice in Marion's name. The family is being served by the Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, Lansing, MI. I grew up next door to Glen and Marion in St. Johns and would often take care of the lawn mowing and watering plants when she was away. I especially liked mowing the lawn because Marion's lawnmower was self propelled and it was much more fun than mowing our yard. I will never forget the day they painted the trunks of the baby trees they had planted in front of the new home they built. I had never heard of doing that and the white trunks still make me smile every time I visit my parents, back home. Marion was a very special neighbor to me.

I remember Marion because she was friends with my mother Dorothy Hart, they worked together, in the soo. My Mom passed in June of 1999.. We always remember them, and love them, and they never really leave us.

Jo, Bob and Kelly,

Your Mom and Grandma was an extraordinary person, and she passed that on to you. What a special place she had in your lives and what a special place you had in hers. Not everyone has that kind of a relationship. It's something to be treasured.

Thinking of you all.

Kathy
