I just learned of Susan's passing this date. She was my inspiration to teach students about controversial subject matter regarding the treatment of Native Americans, i.e. Boarding Schools, ICW, and Freedom of Religion Act. She will be sorely missed !

Ned- We just learned tonight about Susan (a full 8 days after her passing). Our hearts are sad for your loss and for the loss to the world. Susan was a wonderful person, so full of life. I particularly remember that sparkle that came to her eyes and the little grin that would come across her face when she started to tell a story. Hang in there, you have far more people than you can imagine thinking of you these days and sending you their best thoughts. Take care and let's get together - soon. Love - Pat (& Sandy) July 21, 2010.

I am so sad to hear of Sue's passing. We were friends in high school. I will always remember her, and her brother David, as friends involved in theatre and music back at Grand Blanc. We had some good times back then. Ned, your loss is something I can only imagine. I will keep you in my prayers. Bob, having lost the last of your siblings is, unfortunately, something to which I can relate. Hang on to the memories of the wonderful times. They are precious. My thoughts are with you both.

Susan was a wonderful mentor and a good friend. Her candor, wittiness, wisdom, and sincerity will be greatly missed. I will always value our many discussions over the years. There are many highlights like her hooding me at graduation, to being an unassuming sounding board for personal and professional decisions, and our talks regarding spirituality....I only hope I can do for my students what she did for me the past 8 years. Mi8he neewe for everything. Melissa & Sedona

On behalf of the students at Eastern High School who participate in the Lansing Eastern Native American Club, I would like to send my condolences to Dr. Krouse's family. Dr. Krouse was an avid supporter of our program and actively encouraged us to participate with AISES at MSU in order to build bridges and foster a mentoring atmosphere between college and high school students. Dr. Krouse actively supported our fundraisers and took the time to sit and talk with our students. The loss of Dr. Krouse will be felt for years to come. May Great Spirit continue to embrace Dr. Krouse and her family as she takes her journey.

Susan was not only my mentor, but my friend... I was a student at MSU in 2002 until 2004, and within that time I took every course she taught. I learned so much about the coursework, myself, and how to be a better person ... I am who I am today because of her! I just wish I could have had the chance to finish my course work with her. I teach Anthropology because of her; I wanted to show students how enlighten one can be through education… I will never forget our last conversation… I called for an update on her condition, she was optimistic as always, and quickly changed the subject to how and what direction I could take in my graduate program…She was a wise and humble woman, and I stride to be like her! I am truly blessed to have known and loved such a wonderful woman!

Dr. Krouse was a caring, honest, humble and gentle human being who cared deeply for her students and colleagues. I benefited much from her wise counsel. When I last saw her in Tucson she carried herself with her usual grace and dignity. Thank you Susan, I am a better and richer person for having known you and will keep you in my prayers during your journey.
