October 21, 1921 -- March 4, 2015

Virginia E. Riley, 93, of Middlebury, died at 7:40 am on Wednesday, March 4, 2015 at IU Health Hospital, Goshen. She was born on October 21, 1921 in Dundee Township, Monroe County, MI. to Alfred and Jennie  (Hoagland) Haystead.  On March 15, 1943 in Bakersfield, CA, she married Walter L. Riley, he survives.

Survivors in addition to her husband are son, James (Judy) Riley of Northport, AL; two daughters, Janet (J.D.) VanderMeer of Middlebury, Mary Gordon of Cumming, GA; six grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Helen Gunder.

Virginia lived in Lansing, MI. from 1946 to October 2012 where she was a member of Pennway Church of God. She had worked as a secretary both in a church and for American Furnace Foundry Company of Milan, MI. She enjoyed crewel work, completing crossword puzzles and square dancing with her husband. She was known for making the best chocolate brownies.

Visitation will be from 12:00 noon until the 2:00 pm funeral service on Friday, March 6, 2015 at Miller-Stewart Funeral Home, 1003 South Main Street, Middlebury, IN. Services will be conducted by Pastors Everett Thomas and Randy Roth. The family will hold private graveside services on Saturday at Michigan Memorial Park Cemetery, Flat Rock, MI. Memorials may be given to the church or non-profit of the donor's choice.  Online condolences may be sent at millerstewartfuneralhome.com.

I HAVE BEEN WONDERING HOW YOU BOTH WERE DOING. SO SORRY TO HEAR VIRGINA HAS PASSED AWAY BUT KNOW AS A CHRISTIAN THAT SHE IS IN HEAVEN NOW WITH OUR HEAVENLY FATHER. WILL KEEP YOU IN MY PRAYERS.
