Edna Skipper ABERNATHY-Services for Edna Skipper, 83, of Abernathy, Texas, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013, in the Abernathy First Baptist Church with the Rev. Mike O'Donnell and the Rev. Harold Abney officiating. Burial will follow in Abernathy Cemetery under the direction of Abell Funeral Home and Flower Shop of Abernathy, Texas. The family will receive friends at Abell Funeral Home from 6 until 7:30 p.m. today, Jan. 16. Mrs. Skipper died Monday, Jan. 14, 2013, in Lubbock, Texas. She was born Oct. 3, 1929, to C.J. and Martha (Abney) Camp outside Abernathy. She graduated from Abernathy High School in 1946 and married Billy F. Skipper on Sept. 1, 1946, in Des Moines, N.M. She was a member of the Abernathy First Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school ages fourth grade to 100 years old; she sang in the Church and Community Choir; and she was a member of the Women's Missionary Union (WMU). She always attended any sporting events the grandkids were involved with and kept the official stats for many of them. She was the official brownie baker for funerals and was like a second mom to many of the younger church staff over the years. She is survived by her husband, Billy F. Skipper of Abernathy, Texas; four children, Mike Skipper and wife Jan of Willmington, Del., Steve Skipper and wife Angelia of Lubbock, Texas, Yvette Knight and husband Travis of Anton, Texas, and Mark Skipper and wife Karen of Hutto, Texas; nine grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. The family suggests that memorials be sent to the First Baptist Church or to a favorite charity.
