Leslie Covington Obituary

Leslie Fort Covington SLATON-Leslie Fort Covington, dedicated mother and wife, died suddenly this past Saturday, March 18, at her home in Slaton, Texas. She was 51 years old. Leslie was known for her dedication to her three children, her strong leadership and work ethic, and always stepped up to every difficult task put in front of her. She was loved by her community as she spent her time teaching Sunday school at Victory Life Church, and led many projects at the schools her children attended. She also led a successful professional career with Fresenius Kabi Pharmaceuticals and worked hard to provide for her family. Leslie was born in Odessa, Texas, on July 5, 1965, to Sally and Royce Fort. She grew up in Midland, Texas, was involved in the high school band, and was honored in the All State Orchestra. After high school graduation, she attended Texas Tech University obtaining a Master's Degree in Music Performance and completed a minor in Elementary Education. She was such a natural in music and performance that she performed in many concerts over her lifetime, playing with the Lubbock Symphony Orchestra, and studying in France for a semester with a music program. She also often performed at various events and church services. A funeral service will be held in Lubbock, Texas. Burial services will be held afterwards in Tatum, NM. Leslie is survived by her children, Kayl (10), Koupper (15) and Karlly (18); her parents, Sally and Royce Fort of Lovington, NM; her brother, Mark Fort, of San Antonio and his daughter, Kelli; and a sister and brother-in-law, Jeannie and Jimmy Hampton and their children, Libby, Ella and Beck of San Jose, Costa Rica. The family is overwhelmed by the support and love from community, and thanks to Chris Hutson and the Texas Tech FCU, there is now a Covington Children's Fund. You can go to any Texas Tech University https://www.texastechfcu.org/ to donate to this account for the education for the Covington children.

Please know I am thinking of your family with much love today. Leslie was a dear friend in Celina, TX. We walked her first baby very early morning when the weather was good. Leslie was a kind, caring young woman and know she would be so proud of her children! God rest her soul!

I'm so sorry to hear about Leslie. We attended High School together, and during a difficult time in my life, she stood up for me and remained my friend, when others weren't kind. She was the face of Jesus even at that young age, I was amazed at how well and rooted she was in Christ. May her love and kindness to others, give you peace. I will be praying for her children and the family she left behind. I know she left a legacy of love. Tricia Hollums Bullard

My thoughts and prayers go out to Leslie's friends, family and especially her children. I knew Leslie and Karlly when they lived in Celina, TX. We pushed Karlly in the stroller every morning at 6:30. Leslie was so in love with her sweet baby and know she loved her sons with that sweet passion. Leslie was a special friend and my heart breaks that her life was cut short way too soon. God bless her soul!
