Marihelen Lewis Wason MATADOR- Services for Marihelen Lewis Wason, 82, of Matador will be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 17, 2013 at East Mound Cemetery. A church service will be held at 10:30 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Matador with Pastor Bill Manney officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Zapata Funeral Home of Matador. She passed away on July 14, 2013 in Lubbock. Marihelen was born on Oct. 2, 1930 in Floydada, Texas to Charlie Lewis and Fances Kinnard Lewis. She married Billy L. Wason on Sept. 10, 1950 in Floydada, Texas. She moved to Matador in 1950 where she raised three children, Brenda, Charla, and Mark. She worked alongside her husband for many years at the grocery store that they owned. Marihelen also served in the community. She was a member of the Eastern Star, Red Hatter's, secretary at the First United Methodist Church, and served on the East Mound Cemetery Association Board, the Motley County Library Board. She was a past member of the Senior Citizens Board, the Daughters of the American Revolution, and she was a volunteer for the Red Cross. Marihelen was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great- grandmother. Gran, as she was called by all of her family, is survived by her children, Brenda Cruse and husband Darrell of Flomot, Charla Marricle and husband Bennie of Hermleigh, Texas, and Mark Wason and wife Kathleen of Colleyville, Texas; seven grandchildren, Sha Hoelscher, Leah Meyer, Keane Cruse, Kaycee Schafer, Derrick Cruse, Dalton Wason, and Valeena Wason; ten great-grandchildren and two on the way. She was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Wason, and her parents. Memorial donations can be made to East Mound Cemetery Association and the Motley County Library.
