Paul Poyner Obituary

Paul S. Poynor MULESHOE-Memorial Service for Paul S. Poynor, age 76, of Muleshoe, Texas, is scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 14, 2016, at 16th and D Church of Christ in Muleshoe with Curtis Shelburne of Muleshoe officiating. Paul passed away peacefully in Lubbock, Texas on Sunday, June 12, 2016. His body will be donated to the Texas Tech Medical School for medical research. Paul was born Feb. 13, 1940, in Lubbock, Texas, to Bob and Maedelle Poynor. He graduated from Lubbock Monterey High School in 1958. Paul was co-owner, with his brothers, of Poynor's Whites Auto Stores in Muleshoe, and several surrounding towns for over 30 years. He enjoyed his family, reading, working in his yard and church volunteer work. He was a long-time member of the Muleshoe Rotary Club and at one time was a member of the Board of Directors for the First Bank of Muleshoe. He was a founding member of the 16th and D Church of Christ, serving as deacon and elder over the years. Paul was known by many different names such as dad, husband, PawPaw, son, brother, uncle, friend, but first and foremost, he was known as a Christian, who was loved by all he came in contact with. He always had a smile on his face and a hug for anyone he met. Paul is survived by his wife of 21 years, Betty of Muleshoe; his son, Brad Poynor and his wife, Tracy of Weatherford, Texas; daughter-in-law, Kelly Poynor of Monahans, Texas; three stepsons, Jason Obenhaus and his wife, JoAnna, Justin Obenhaus and his wife, Christene and Levi Obenhaus and his wife, Misty; one stepdaughter, Candal Long and her husband, Scott; seven grandsons, Tate Poynor and his wife, Kimberly, Tyse Poynor, Trey Poynor, Reid Poynor, Christian Poynor, Augustus Blackmer and Philip Blackmer; one great-grandson, Nolan Poynor; ten step-grandchildren; one step-great-granddaughter; three brothers, Bobby Poynor of Ransom Canyon, Texas, Haney Poynor and his wife, Faye and Marlin Poynor and his wife, Carola of Lubbock, Texas; one sister, Margaret Ann Lindquist and her husband, Doug of Granbury, Texas; sister-in-law, Margie Poynor of Rogers, AR; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Bob and Maedelle Poynor; his brother, Frank Poynor; and his son, David Paul Poynor. The family suggests memorials be sent to 16th and D Church of Christ, PO Box 402, Muleshoe, TX, 79347. Online condolences may be made at www.ellisfuneralhomes.com.

May good memories be comforting.
I am remembering good visits with all the Poyner family - in Lubbock - so many, many years ago.
Love and hugs!

You are all in our thoughts today as we remember the life of Paul, and the many lives he touched. We wish him warp speed as he takes this next step, pressing onward to his final home. Our hearts hurt for the family left behind to mourn his absence, but remember it will not be a sad reunion on one great day when all of you will sing in perfect harmony. May God bless and give comfort to each of you as you honor him, and hold fast to your memories of Paul, the man respected and loved by all who knew him.
