Ray Ann Hargrove-Huttel TERRELL- The bright light that was Ray Ann Hargrove-Huttel, 57, was extinguished Sunday, December 23, 2012. She died after a courageous battle with cancer with her family at her side. Ray is survived by her daughter, Teresa Huttel of Lubbock, Texas and son Aaron Huttel and his fiance, Courtney Rosenthal of Terrell, Texas. She also leaves behind her sisters, Gail Hargrove, and Debbie Hargrove, her partner, Paula Newman, and their son Benjamin Newman-Hargrove, all of Lubbock. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Huttel, and her parents, Leo Ray and Nancy Ann Hargrove. Ray was a caregiver from her early years when she served as a candy-striper in Terrell, Texas. She worked as a nurse for 35 years, beginning her career as a Captain in the U.S. Army. Later, she became a nurse educator, earning her PhD in Nursing at Texas Woman's University in 1988. Dr. Huttel authored several nursing books, taught nursing board review courses across the country, and was a nursing instructor at Trinity Valley Community College in Kaufman, Texas, served as Associate Dean of Nursing at West Coast College in North Hollywood, California, and, at the time of her death was Associate Professor at Texas Tech University School of Nursing. Ray loved teaching and cherished her role as a mentor. Ray was as generous in sharing herself and her life as she was in sharing her knowledge. She volunteered with Special Olympics in Lubbock, Texas and was Aunt Ray to many young people. Ray loved bowling, traveling, seeking new adventures, meeting people, spending time with friends and family. She was a vibrant, caring soul who enriched the lives of those who knew her. She will forever be missed by her family and friends. Her service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, December 27, 2012 at Anderson-Clayton Bros. Funeral Home. Visitation will be 12 p.m. to 2 p.m., also on Thursday, December 27, 2012. Interment will be at Oakland Memorial Park, Terrell, Texas.
