Robert J. Baker. Mentor. Cutting edge international scientist. Prolific publisher. A leader in his discipline of mammalogy. A major figure in educating biologists and museum professionals. He excelled by unselfishly giving back to his discipline, his museum, and his university. He had an unforgettable personality and was a person driven to succeed. He is one of those few who will be remembered far into the future. I miss him. My sympathies to Laura and his family. He was an extraordinary individual.

A TRUE LEGEND IN MAMMALOGY AND AN SUPREME EDUCATOR. His contributions to the science of Mammalogy will live on in his students and publications. A true friend of many of us and of great influence on my personal career in an indirect way. RIP

My dear Baker, you always talked about leaving a legacy. In case there are any doubts, you have done just that...it's all of us who you mentored over the many years of your career. I've rarely met a man with such passion for science and for truth. The world was lucky to have you.
