Sam Mayo

Sam Mayo LUBBOCK-Sam Mayo, 80, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 15, 2016, in Lubbock, Texas. Sam was born Jan. 24, 1936, in Petersburg, Texas, and attended Petersburg High School. He earned a bachelor's degree from Eastern New Mexico University in 1959 and played football while there. His great love besides God, family and friends was sports. He enjoyed all teams and all coaches. He coached at Three Way High School, Happy High School, O'Donnell High School and New Deal High School. After his coaching career, he worked 42 years in the football equipment business for Riddle All American, retiring last year. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Peggy Mayo; daughter, Debra Montgomery of Lubbock; son, Ron Mayo and wife Kristi of New Deal; daughter, Melissa Morrow and husband Billy of Hamlin; stepdaughter, Jeanny Payne and husband Terry of Mabank, Texas; and stepson, Michael Ford of Lubbock; sisters, Sue Ann Van Winkle and husband Don of Ferdinand, Ind., and Polly Harris of Spur; 13 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren; and numerous uncles and cousins. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 18, at the First Baptist Church of New Deal with burial to follow in the Petersburg Cemetery.
