Steve Maeker DALLAS - Steve Maeker, 65, passed away Saturday, May 11, 2013 in Dallas. Family and friends will gather to celebrate his life at 1 p.m., Tuesday, May 14, at Holy Cross Church, 4052 Herschel Ave, Dallas. Steve was born February 27, 1948 in Lubbock to Robert and Luceil Maeker. He dedicated his life to his family and their business, Maeker's Shoes. Equal part class clown and gifted craftsman, Steve spent each day serving everyone around him, wanting only to make people smile. His laugh was infectious, his smile could melt ice, and his shoes brought relief to thousands on the South Plains. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Teresa; daughter and son-in-law, Lauren and Bill Curnow of Lubbock; son, Colin Maeker of Fort Worth; sisters, Daphne McGowen, and family, of Waco and Trudy Hindman, and family, of Amarillo. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the American Diabetes Association, 8008 Slide Rd, Lubbock, TX 79424.
