Barbara Albright Obituary

BARBARA ALBRIGHT Barbara Carruth Albright passed away February 27, 2018. Our sweet mother passed away after a difficult struggle with Parkinsons. She was born March 26, 1930, in Evanston, Wyoming, the second daughter of Scott Heber Carruth and Ella Callista Earl. In May 1937, her father died of a ruptured appendix and her mother and two sisters moved to Bunkerville to be near family. When she was 12-years-old her family moved to Las Vegas, where she attended the Fifth Street Grammar School and Las Vegas High School, from which she graduated in 1948 as the Salutatorian. She enjoyed Saturday night dances, swimming parties at the Old Ranch, earning a place on the honor roll, serving as a class officer, participating in many clubs, being a Junior Prom Queen attendant, participating in drama productions and especially associating with a special young man, Vern Albright. She received a scholarship to the University of Nevada at Reno and joined Tri Delta Sorority. She spent one year of her education at Brigham Young University to be near her boyfriend, Vern, but then returned to Reno. Barbara became President of her sorority and of Cap and Scroll, an honorary women's organization, and graduated as Salutatorian of her UNR class in 1952. Shortly after her college graduation, Barbara married the love of her life, George "Vern" Albright August 25, 1952, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple after a seven-year courtship. They lived in Springville, Utah while Vern finished undergraduate school and Barbara taught second grade. After Vern graduated, he served in the U.S. Air Force and they left Utah for Texas. Mark was born two months later. They lived in nine different states during the first 10 years of their marriage. Douglas was born in Maine and Karen and Chris were born in Las Vegas. Barbara enjoyed reading, writing, being with family, serving in her church, camping, skiing, hiking, boating, snowmobiling and traveling to foreign countries. She was grateful for the heritage of a great family and a mother who set a wonderful example of sacrifice and love for her three daughters. Barbara became an active member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. She was an active member of her church and served as Primary president, Young Women's president, and Relief Society president and in many other various callings that allowed her to touch the lives of so many and gain friendships along the way. One of the greatest experiences she had was serving as a Mission President and missionary mom to hundreds of LDS missionaries in the Florida Tampa Mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from 1988-1991. She inspired many individuals by her words of faith and love for our Savior Jesus Christ not only on her mission, but throughout her lifetime. She lived a life of faith and was an example to all of a loving, Christlike woman. Her strength and influence will be greatly missed. She is survived by her sister, Carole Carruth Bowman; sons, G. Mark Albright (Karyn Wasden) and Douglas H. Albright (Megan Stromer); daughter, Karen Albright Callister (Paul Callister); son, D. Chris Albright (Elaine Bowman); 18 grandchildren; and 36 great-grand-children. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 10, at 8801 W. Alexander Road, the LDS Alexander and El Capitan building.
