Gordon Doeringsfeld Obituary

Gordon Doeringsfeld passed away Tuesday, May 17, 2005, in Henderson, where he had lived for the past seven years. Born in Lancaster, Wis., Aug. 16, 1920, to Alvin and Hazel (Walker) Doeringsfeld, and he was raised in Fennimore, Wis. Gordon graduated from Wisconsin Mining School (now University of Wisconsin), Plattville, Wis., as a civil engineer and began working for the State of Illinois Department of Transportation. He married Celia Alexander in February 1942. He served in the 83rd Division of Engineering Corps, during World War II. Gordon and Celia set up home in Elgin, Ill., after he returned from service in Europe. He continued working for IDOT retiring in 1970, after 35 years. Upon his retirement they moved to Brooksville, Fla., where they resided for 22 years before moving to Nevada. Gordon was a former member of the American Legion. He was honored for 50 years as a member of the Masons by the Lonsberry chapter. He and Celia enjoyed traveling after he retired. They visited their former foreign exchange student in Brazil, went to Germany and France and Alaska, plus various places in the U.S. while attending reunions with the 83rd Division. Gordon is survived by his wife, Celia; two daughters, Sharon Grupe of Elgin, Ill. and Diane Hobbs of Henderson; grandchildren, Kirsten Grupe (Mike Wilson) and Kelli (Robert) Catini, Sasha (Joe) Marquez, Jared Hobbs, Suton (Tom) Cicero, Olivia Bromley, Basil James Doeringsfeld and Blake Doeringsfeld; and five great-grandchild-ren, Kyle Karakas, Jacob Catini, Hazel Cicero, Harry Cicero and Madelyn Bromley. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Donald; son, Ron Doeringsfeld; and son-in-law, David Grupe. Funeral will be at noon Monday, May 23, at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Boulder City. Arrangements handled by Hites Funeral Home.
