Dr. McAllister was one of the most memorable professors I have ever had at UNLV. I took his Leadership class in the Spring of 2020. His lessons extended far beyond the classroom. He started off each class by asking everyone a deep question about ourselves, and we went around and really got to know one another. I left that semester having a deeper appreciation and respect for everyone in the class. He made sure to let us know that we were valued, and even had a day where we bonded with other classmates. On the last day of class, he even had everyone say good things about each other! That touched my heart. His approach to teaching was unique, and I appreciated that so much. He was never afraid to share his values with us, and made sure that we each knew the importance of finding our true passions in life and living out each day through our values. That summer I was able to visit him and Wendy at their lovely home. I gave him some cream for his shoulder pain, and he told me that the pain went away enough for him to sleep well, which made me feel so happy knowing I could help in some way. Before I left, he made sure to give me a copy of the Book of Mormon since I didn´t have it. A giver at his core. I feel blessed to have known such a caring and loving human being, that continued to serve others every day to his last days. He impacted the lives of so many, and I will never forget him. I will continue on the path that I shared with him and do the work that God has placed in my heart! I won´t let him down. I know he is Heaven with God, and that makes me feel at peace. I found out about his passing at my graduation, when I was planning on inviting him to my graduation party. I am saddened that I missed the memorial services and that I am very late in writing this, but I just felt called in my heart to share.
Sincerely, Kayla Millette

I recently learned of Dr. McAllister's passing when reading the UNLV magazine. I am saddened to hear of his passing and send my condolences to all the family. He was one of my professors way back when but I always remembered him even as I moved on and graduated! Thank you for the impact you have made on students like me. May you rest in peace.

I received a call from the UNLV Alumni Association tonight, and when asked what professor during my time at UNLV made the most meaningful impact, my mind immediately went to Dr. Dan. To learn of his passing gives me immeasurable sadness, and I know how profoundly he must be missed by his family. It is rare that a person is so wholly and unassumingly kind, and I am grateful to have had to chance to know him. My condolences to his family and friends.
