Doris Berger Obituary

DORIS GREB BERGER Doris Greb Berger succumbed Jan. 23, 2007, following a year long battle with pancreatic cancer. "Greb", as she was known to everyone, began her career at the tender age of 16 performing in burlesque. Without any formal training, she and her first husband created a dance team, appearing in New York night clubs. Their act was so unique they were the subject of a six page spread in Life Magazine early in 1946; the publicity launched their career, leading to appearances in top night clubs in the United States, Great Britain, and Paris. She opened two of the most famous clubs in New York, the Copacabana and the Latin Quarter. She and her first husband appeared for the first time in Las Vegas as headliners at the El Rancho Vegas in 1947. At that time, there were only two Strip hotels, the El Rancho and the Last Frontier. Greb most notably was a dancer on Broadway, appearing in seven major productions including Pajama Game, Silk Stockings and Shangri-La. She was continuously sought to perform by such notable choreographers as Don Arden and Bob Fosse along with director Hal Prince. Greb continued appearing in Las Vegas and was selected to act as a foil for such headliners as Milton Berle and Liberace. She spent two years as the lead dancer at the Desert Inn. She also appeared on early television, including a season with Sid Caesar. Her career spanned over 25 years. Greb is survived by her husband, David; her four daughters, Kyra, Katherine, Alexandra and Naia; a stepdaughter, Julie; and four grandchildren, Mary, Nick, Katy and Natasha. She was 83 years of age. Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 28, at Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave., Las Vegas, NV 89123.
