Ellen Frey Obituary

Ellen Hagerstrand Frey Ellen L. Hagerstrand Frey, 87, a 30 year resident of Las Vegas, died peacefully Dec. 12, 2006, at Nathan Adelson Hospice, attended by family members. Born in Wayne, Ill., Ellen spent her childhood and early adult life in Waukesha and Pewaukee, Wis. She was a 1937 graduate of the Metropolitan High School in Waukesha, and was married to her high school sweetheart, Raymond E. Frey, in 1941. As the wife of a career Air Force officer, Ellen traveled with her growing family to several U.S. postings, as well as to the Philippines, Puerto Rico and Germany. She was an active volunteer for numerous community and youth organizations, including hospitals, Girl Scouts, PTA, and youth sports. Athletic all her life, she enjoyed golf and was an accomplished bowler. Music was an abiding interest; Ellen played guitar and piano, and sang in choral groups through the years. Other interests included bridge, gardening, reading, and crafts. After raising her family, Ellen returned to school and subsequently was employed for many years as a medical assistant by Desert Orthopedic Clinic. She and her husband enjoyed an active retirement in Las Vegas. Ellen was predeceased in 1984, by her husband, Lt. Col. Raymond E. Frey, U.S. Air Force, retired. Surviving are her children, Judith (Alex) Friedman of Fayetteville, N.Y., Sylvia (Paul) Cornell, Kathleen (Niels) Hansen, both of Las Vegas, and Raymond (Regina) Frey, Jr. of Eugene, Ore.; a brother, Russell Hagerstrand of California; a half brother, Milton Hagerstrand of Wisconsin; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by an infant son, Ronald; and three brothers. Ellen was loved and cherished by her family and friends and will be greatly missed. Burial will be beside her husband at Riverside National Cemetery, California. A memorial celebration of her life will be held in January. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Nathan Adelson Hospice Foundation, 4141 Swenson St., Las Vegas, NV 89119.
