Ivan "John" Balko passed away at home at age 97 on July 5, 2021. He was the eldest of 3 boys born to Philip and Pauline Romanow Balko on July 3, 1924, in Velyki Mosti, Ukraine, under Polish occupation. He was a tailor's apprentice until age 17, when German forces took young teens to work in labor camps during World War II. Ivan ended up in Weisenfels working as both a tailor and a fireman. It was there he met his future wife, Efrosina Malko, and married in Goettingen on September 2, 1945. They lived in England for 5 years and, after an aunt's sponsorship, arrived in New York in December 1951. Ivan worked in the garment industry then Bankers Trust Company in NY as a printer until retirement in 1987. Ivan moved to Las Vegas in 1993 from New Jersey. He was preceded in death by his wife in 2007. He is survived by his daughter Linda (Mark) Gallo, 2 granddaughters and great grandson.
