Dear JR and Carol, I was saddened to hear about Jason. My daughter did the WJRA with him, (we were part of the anti Sunday rodeo group) and she did High School rodeo her Freshman year, before transfering to Utah. We were the folks who bought Dusty(Harley) from Emberto. We enjoyed that little horse, and he certainly found a good home here at the farm. My Daughter took all around on him at Twin Falls College rodeo-she was hard to beat with Dusty (Harley), Our Son was using prior to this in High School rodeo, he left home to serve an LDS mission to Indiana in Jan. of 2009. We lost him to a tradegy here on the farm in June of 2009. It was hard to lose him and try to make any sense of it. I want you to know that you folks are in our prayers, this has to be very hard. May the Lord bless you and fortify you in your time of loss. May you take some comfort in knowing that you can be with him again. I now have a better understanding, knowing that Dusty was there, waiting for Jason. sincerely, Renie Layton Beaver Dam AZ

What can I say? I am deeply saddened to hear today that I have lost one of my favorite students. Ironically, I was looking at my 2005 SNVTC yearbook over Labor Day weekend, and smiled when I came across Jason’s pictures. It even prompted me to do a Facebook friend search for Jason! A sad paradox.
In class, he was not a straight A student, but that mischievous smile [especially when homework was due ;0] was always a welcomed part of my day. “Take me to the restaurant Ms. Diaz!” was a regular, pestering request ;0].
I will fondly remember walking to the vocational wing to see what my kids were doing, and Jason would happily show me his latest welds. In fact, he is the student who welded my camping fire pit for me; it only cost me lunch in the school restaurant ; 0]
Any yet, my favorite memory of Jason, however, has little to do with school itself. Instead, I remember a 10th grader inviting me and my daughter [then 12 years old] to come out to Pahrump to watch him rodeo. My daughter loved it, and we came out to Pahrump and Boulder City to several more rodeos to watch him rope. I am now sooo glad we did. . [Oh, and at that first Pahrump rodeo we went to, I don’t care what anyone says about that first run [when the stupid timer malfunctioned, and he was made to re-run it]; Jason d*** sure DID TOO! have it on that first run! I’m just saying…
To Mr. and Mrs. Vela, my heart goes out to you. Please know your son made a difference in my world. I am certainly blessed for having known such a terrific young man. He is sorely missed already.
Warmest sympathies,
Mrs. Lisa Diaz [SNVTC, History], and Jess

Jason, it was so amazing to be able to get to know you. Though time was cut short I know you lived a very short, but amazing life. You were my sister's "go to" person when I wasn't around...and Tiff's love of her life. I knew from the moment you two started talking that night you and I two-stepped because Anthony wouldn't :) and we did the MIB ridiculously on the dance floor. That you two were gonna be together, forever. You are an amazing person. I wish I had more time to know you, but I know that you are watching down on us all...telling us to all be big kids with our big kid pants. I will miss you so much and I will be there for Tiffany and Ryder..my sister, Brad and all of our friends. I will definitely always dance for you at Stoney's and Revolver. I will miss you very, very much. Love you so much Jason.
